Renting The Rain, 2012 a collaborative work by J.J. McCracken and Margaret Boozer with help from Erwin Timmers, installed in the woods at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, Newcastle, ME. The piece consists of rain collection tarps, cistern, shower stall with curtain and coin operator. One can only take a shower if there has been rainfall to supply the cistern. An exterior guage reveals the water level. Then, $3.00 worth of quarters buys the user a 3 minute shower with lovely Maine rain water. Our hope is to bring awareness to sources and ownership of water, as well as consumption. |
